Adoption Fees:*

Our basic adoption fee is $150.00

Why do we charge this much? Here's a run down of the basic expenses for an average, healthy adult female when coming into our program from a shelter or off the streets:

Spay Surgery $ .80.00
Basic Vaccinations (2 @ $12.50) . $ .25.00
Rabies Vaccination $ .12.00
Worming (2x) $ . 20.00
Heartworm Test $ . 20.00
Heartworm Preventative $ . 30.00
Flea Dip $ ....4.50
Flea Preventative $ ....9.00
Collar & ID Tags $ ....7.50
ID Tattoo $ . 10.00
---------------
Total $ 218.00

That does not even take into consideration the monthly cost to properly care for each dog. For an average, medium sized dog, the monthly cost runs around $50. All of our adult dogs are kept a minimum of 2 months. We never adopt out an adult dog until we have had time to properly evaluate them. The average time in foster is 6 mos. to 2 years. Even if the dog is only in our care for four months, that adds another $200.00 to the tab. That is a grand total of $418.00 for four months, for a female. Males are $25 less, for neutering.

Many of the shelter and street dogs come to us with other problems which require medical attention above and beyond the basics. (We recently had a dog that had been through he!! before he came to us -- he racked up over $1500 in vet costs and another $1850 in behavioral training, plus care for 2 years prior to adoption.)

Not all of our incoming dogs need all of the basics -- all of our owner surredered dogs are already altered, wormed and vaccinated. But, there is the occasional "special needs" dog which requires a special care, x-rays, surgery, special diets and medications for a variety of reasons. The money saved on a dog already up to date is spent many times over on the  less fortunate ones. Hundreds to thousands of dollars are spent to make them healthy, well adjusted companions waiting to become part of a family.

$150.00 sounds like a lot and takes many people by surprise. Every penny goes toward the care, feeding and training of our foster "kids" in order to place them into forever homes.

* Note: In cases where air shipment and the associated costs are involved for the dog to reach its new home, the fee will usually be waived, in lieu of actual expenses.

Surrender Fees:

We do charge a surrender fee when we accept dogs surrendered by their owners. The fee is to help defray the cost of feeding, care, evaluation, training, etc., until a permanent home can be found for the dog. The fee is currently $200.
